Creator/Contributor:
Holbrook, Willis Bowditch., creator
Abstract:
The collection focuses on the letters of W.B. Holbrook written to his family while serving as second mate on cargo ships sailing
from Cardiff, Wales, to Hong Kong and from Hong Kong to Melbourne, Australia. Some letters to his brother are written on letter
sheets labeled "View of Melbourne from St. Kilda Road." Letters describe his winters in Deep Wells, Nevada, while waiting
for his annual summer jobs with the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey to resume. Also included are letters to and from other
family members. An account book lists the amounts invested in real estate by Charlotte J. Holbrook, trustee for the estate
of Anthony Holbrook, her late husband. Genealogical papers are included.
